Museum visit with guided tours available upon request

A permanent exhibition has opened in the main building of Gyulavári Castle, inviting visitors on a unique journey through time. The “Thousand Faces” exhibition aims to showcase the values of the Southern Great Plain in the context of the past, present, and future—illustrating how traditions can become the foundation for the future.

As you walk along the castle’s corridors, you can explore the history of Gyula and the former independent village of Gyulavári. Old photographs, maps, and documents guide visitors through the stages of the city’s development. While the castle’s original furnishings have not been preserved, the charming veranda opening from the corridor still offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the noble families.

The rooms dedicated to folk art provide insight into the diverse cultural heritage of the Southern Great Plain. Visitors can learn about the customs, traditional attire, everyday objects, and daily activities of the local people, including weaving, spinning, and pottery.

A highlight of the exhibition is the Erkel Room, where visitors can learn about the history and music of national anthems. This room pays tribute to Ferenc Erkel, the composer of the Hungarian National Anthem, who was born in Gyula.

Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Kohán Room, featuring works by key figures in the painting of the Southern Great Plain, including György Kohán and Rozália Koszta.

We warmly welcome all visitors curious about the cultural treasures, traditions, and the multifaceted historical legacy of our region!
